International Music Day
Take a few minutes on October 1st to celebrate International Music Day. Listen to the radio or play your favorite songs, attend a concert, or even practice playing an instrument.
National Leif Erikson Day
On October 9th, Leif Erikson Day commemorates the first Norwegian immigrants to the US in 1825 and recognizes the Icelandic explorer who was the first European to visit North America. Learn about Norse history, try some Scandinavian food, or play a game of Tafl with your family.
National Fossil Day
Celebrate National Fossil Day on the Wednesday of the second full week in October. Visit a museum to look at found fossils or head to a state or national park to hunt for them yourself. Depending on where you live, you may even be able to find fossils in your own backyard!
National Pasta Day
National Pasta Day is celebrated on October 17th and October is National Pasta Month. Today is the perfect day to cook up some pasta, probably one of your kids’ favorite meals.
International Sloth Day
International Sloth Day is October 20th. Spend today reading or learning about these sleepy critters, visit one at a nearby zoo, or participate in a conservation event.
Back to the Future Day
October 21st has been celebrated as Back to the Future Day since 2015, the date that Marty McFly traveled to in his future in the second film. The best way to celebrate is by watching Back to the Future II. You can also enjoy food or video games mentioned in the film, ride a hoverboard, or predict how you think the world will change in the next 30 years.
