Writing prompt ideas

Try one of these fall writing prompt ideas. There are 5 included on the printable and they’re all open-ended. Here are a few ways you could use them.

  1. I know that fall is here when…
    • There are lots of signs of fall, including weather and cultural traditions. What kinds of things are familiar in the place where you live?
  2. My favorite fall food is…
    • It it pumpkin? Or maybe chili? Something you eat on a holiday? Or just a deliciously sweet or savory dish? Describe it, talk about traditions, or include the recipe!
  3. If I were a tree in the fall…
    • This prompt is a great opportunity to try out different types of writing. You could tell a fantasy story, write a poem or haiku, or include some scientific facts.
  4. My best fall memory is…
    • Tell about something special that happened this season. Fall is a broad topic, so it could be about back to school, holidays, the weather, friends, or almost anything!
  5. Fall is the best time of year to…
    • What’s something you do in the fall? Again, holidays are plentiful, but you could also talk about hobbies or even choose something silly.

The graphics on this fall writing prompt printable are autumn-colored leaves. The printable includes grade school lines to give kids space for handwriting practice too.
