On cold winter days, you need easy activities to keep kids busy indoors. Plus, when they can be educational, they’re even better.

Being able to match pairs is a developmental stage that starts around 2 years old with simple identification. This winter matching worksheet is probably better for those around age 3 or even older.

The patterns are a bit more complex than a simple circle or square. And they’re black and white, so kids are just matching patterns, not colors.

For an extra activity, your child could color the mittens pairs to match after they’ve finished connecting them. To make this a bit more challenging for elementary kids, cut out a square around each mitten. Turn the pieces upside-down and have them flip over pairs to try and match by memory.

Of course, being able to recognize matching mittens and wearing matching mittens outside to play are 2 different stories!

For this simple preschool worksheet, there are 5 mittens on each side of the page. Each one matches its mate on the other side.

This one-page printable is black and white, so you can print several without using much printer ink. Use this at home, in your individual classroom, or in a small kids’ club.
