Every kid loves Mad Libs – those silly short stories that are created by filling in the blank with a few mystery words. I turned a short Mad Libs style story into a printable Mother’s Day card that makes a sweet bonding moment between mom and child.

Mad Libs are great because with a little help from an adult, even the youngest kids can create a silly story. This one should appeal to kids from toddlers to teens.

Note that these aren’t official Mad Libs, only inspired by the style. If you’re looking for more Mad Libs activities for Mother’s Day, get the official branded Mother Knows Mad Libs and Greatest Grandma Mad Libs.

How to make a Mad Libs style card

Supplies

  • printable card (subscribe to get the download below)
  • printer
  • card stock
  • paper trimmer or scissors
  • colorful pens or pencils

Instructions

1. Print the downloaded card PDF.

Start by printing the card page on 8.5×11-inch card stock. One card prints on a single sheet of paper. I linked to the printer I’m currently using above, but of course, this will work on whatever you have.

2. Cut out the card.

Use a paper trimmer or scissors to cut out the card on the outline. I like the paper trimmer because it creates a smooth, clean line, but scissors are fine too.

3. Fold the card.

Fold the card in half with the images on the outside. Crease the edge with your fingernails, a ruler, or anything smooth. The inside is blank, so you can write your own message!

How to fill in the card

There are a couple of ways to gift this to mom. You could have the kids fill it out and give it to her with the answers done. Or write a message on the inside and then let her sit down and fill it out with the kids for a fun – and funny – Mother’s Day activity.

To do the Mad Libs activity, first fill in the words on the back of the card without looking at the front. It asks for things like a verb and a food.

Open the card back up and copy the words from the back next to the matching numbers on the front. Read the letter to mom and enjoy the giggles!
