I’ve been dreaming up this recipe for years. It’s a running joke (or Internet meme) the dark side of the force has cookies to entice you to join them. I mean, surely Darth Vader likes cookies with 2 kinds of chocolate chips.
These dark side cookies are the perfect treat for Star Wars Day. They’re soft and crumbly and taste delicious with a glass of blue milk.
If you’re looking for something on the lighter side, you might also want to make my Star Wars BB-8 cupcakes.

How to make dark side cookies
Note: I used a stand mixer for this recipe. If you don’t have one, I recommend at least a hand mixer for creaming the butter and sugar together unless you’ve got Jedi-like arm muscles.
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup mini milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. Cream the butter and sugar.
In the bowl of the stand mixer, cream the butter and sugar using the paddle attachment.

3. Add egg and vanilla.
Add the eggs and vanilla and blend until mostly smooth. Scrape down the sides with a spatula if necessary.

4. Combine and add dry ingredients.
In a separate bowl or large measuring cup, combine the flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and blend until evenly combined.

5. Add chocolate chips.
Use a spatula to gently fold in both types of chocolate chips.

6. Portion and bake cookies.
Scoop the cookie dough by large tablespoons onto the baking sheet and flatten just a bit. They don’t spread much. Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 9 minutes per batch.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes and then remove them to a cooling rack to completely cool.

These dark side cookies would be a perfect addition to a Star Wars party. Of course, even if you’re not a Star Wars fan, these triple chocolate cookies are a treat any day of the year.
