These are the droids you’re looking for! Making a batch of Star Wars cupcakes at home – whether you use a box or a recipe – is easy. These printable cupcake toppers feature your favorite classic and new characters.
The new Star Wars droid BB-8 kind of makes me think of carrot cake. (Because he’s white and orange.) Once I got the idea in my head, I couldn’t get it out.

I whipped up these Star Wars cupcakes and the result was the perfect balance between cute and delicious. They’re simple carrot cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, topped with little paper circles featuring icons of droids and other iconic Star Wars characters and ships.
The 8 different circle designs include the Death Star, Millennium Falcon, a Stormtrooper, Darth Vader, C3PO, BB-8, Boba Fett, and R2D2.
How to make Star Wars cupcakes
Supplies:
- boxed carrot cake mix, plus ingredients to make it – or your favorite recipe
- cream cheese frosting
- metallic foil cupcake liners
- plastic cocktail toothpicks
- Scotch tape
- Star Wars printables (download at the end)
Instructions:
Start by baking the carrot cake cupcakes according to the box mix directions or the recipe, if you’re baking from scratch.
Aluminum cupcake liners are supposed to be sturdy enough that you can use them on a baking sheet without a muffin pan, but I use a muffin pan anyway.
Bake the cupcakes in the metal liners and set them aside to cool completely. You can even do the baking portion the day before.
Meanwhile, put the cream cheese frosting in a zip bag. Snip off a tiny triangle corner and get ready to frost some cupcakes.
To frost each cupcake, hold the bag in one hand and squeeze it with the other. Draw a circle around the outside edge of the cupcake and spiral inward to cover the whole top. Lift up at the center.
Print the Star Wars cupcake topper page on cardstock. Cut out a paper circle for each cupcake. Tape a toothpick to the back of each one and stick it into the center of the cupcake.

Star Wars printables
Be sure to download your Star Wars printables for your next party. The circles are approximately 1-1/2 inches across and there are 24 to a page. These are fun cupcake toppers, but they also could be used on favor bags or other party decorations. The download also includes the alphabet and character banner.
