Holidays at my house usually mean candy! I’m always keeping an eye out for cute candy jars with a holiday theme. I’ve been looking for one in particular that’s popped up on Instagram, but haven’t found it at any of my local stores, so I decided to make a DIY version.
This cute little candy jar is easy to make with just a few supplies from the dollar store. I picked up the main supplies at my local Dollar Tree.
You can make this with a fall and Halloween theme like I did, or simply swap out the colors and the bobble on top to make this work for any holiday. Or use something that matches your decor for year-round decorative storage.
How to make a fall candy jar
Supplies
- Small glass jar with a lid – Mine is about 4×4 inches
- glass taper candle holder
- decorative craft pumpkin – The 1.25-inch ones come in a 6-pack
- orange spray paint
- wirecutters
- Loctite Stik’n Seal clear adhesive – I used outdoor because it’s what I already had, but indoor should work too
Instructions
Paint the pieces.
The first thing to do is remove any store labels and clean the glass jar and candle holder. Then set up a protected workspace, outdoors if possible, and spray paint one pumpkin and the candle holder orange.
Spray paint works best when you apply 2-3 light coats a few minutes apart. When you’re happy with the coverage, let the painted pieces dry for an hour or 2.
Assemble the pedestal.
When the paint is dry, use wirecutters to trim the wire from the bottom of the craft pumpkin.
Use the adhesive to attach the candle holder to the base of the glass jar. Then attach the pumpkin to the center of the lid. Allow both to dry according to the package directions. I let mine sit for 24 hours just to be sure.
Fill the jar with candy.
Of course, the last and most important step is to fill the candy jar with candy! There’s nothing like a fresh bag of candy corn, right?
The great thing about a candy jar with a lid is that you can fill it with wrapped or unwrapped candy. This one holds about 3 cups, so a 12-ounce bag of candy corn fits perfectly.
I used this jar to hold candy, but you could easily change it up to hold anything! Here are a few ideas:
- coffee or tea near your morning drink station
- marshmallows at a hot cocoa bar at Christmas
- cotton balls, q-tips, or makeup sponges in the bathroom
- dog treats near the front or back door
- store buttons, beads, etc. in a craft room
- make a tiny terrarium
