Food is a gift that’s perfect for just about anyone on your list. It’s a good all-purpose present for people you don’t know well, but want to give something thoughtful. Gifts in jars are perfect for making in large quantities for the mail carrier, bus driver, teachers, co-workers, and others. I’ve rounded up a dozen easy recipes and included a free printable gift tag.
A few tips before we get to the list of goodies. First, absolutely wash your hands and utensils, and practice the best food handling to prevent germs and other grossness. Second, make sure you either list the ingredients on the gift tag or are certain that the recipient is not allergic to what you are giving. Food allergies are so common these days that it is better safe than sorry. And of course, be sure to include instructions when necessary.

Canning jar gifting
Mason or Ball canning jars are ideal for food gifts. They come in a wide variety of sizes and colors. Be sure that your container is clean and sterilized if necessary, before adding the food.
If you have time to be creative, check out my rewritable chalkboard paint labels and sewn canning jar labels. For a simple print-and-write label that will fit a standard-width canning jar, these “Merry Christmas” snowflake labels are simple.
The printable page includes circle labels for the lid and square gift tags to write any ingredients or cooking instructions.
