Recycled jewelry storage

Would you dig through the trash to organize your treasure? Recycled jewelry holder diy by One Mama's Daily Drama

I don’t really wear a lot of jewelry, but I do have a lot. I tend to wear about the same five things over and over. Most mornings, I’m kind of in a hurry, so I just grab whatever I see and go. I know I have lots of nice things, buried in my drawer. Somewhere. Finally, I had enough of the mess and decided to get organized. I pulled a few things out of the recycling bin and put together this simple recycled jewelry storage.

This is before. I’m not really sure why most of these things are in here. There’s all the things my kids have made for me. And all the things I’ve taken away from them when they misbehaved. I have a bag of old makeup that I haven’t worn in a year or two. And somewhere in this mess is actual jewelry that a gal might wear.

Recycled jewelry storage: getting organized

I started by pulling everything out and sorting it. Some went to other places, like that flashlight. Some went into the trash. Sorry, kids. Once I narrowed it down to what actually belonged in the drawer, sorting was easy.

I cut the tops off of two cardboard egg cartons. The little cups are just the right size for most small pieces. The white Styrofoam containers are what my chicken comes in. Don’t worry; the chicken is also individually shrink-wrapped, so it never even touched these. That would be gross.

Finally, the rectangles on the left are the bottoms of cereal boxes. I just stood each one up in the drawer and drew a line with a pencil. No ruler needed, and then I cut.

I started putting things back in and rearranged a bit. I really love this old jewelry box that once belonged to my grandmother. It isn’t going anywhere. Everything else just fit into place. Now all of my hair accessories fit inside the drawer too.

If you need more inspiration, I love these ideas from other bloggers. Bright, Bold and Beautiful uses recycled bottled to hold bracelets. Liz Marie uses mismatched knobs to hold her things. This jewelry stand on Epbot is made from empty plastic soda bottles, but looks really fancy.

What do you think? Would you use recycled junk to organize your jewelry?
