Keeping your 3 to 5-year-old entertained in the car can be a challenge! It’s easy to get bored, especially on a long drive.
When my kids were that age, I tried everything to make road trips fun. But snacks get messy fast, games and toys tend to have a lot of pieces, and even a kid who naps won’t sleep when you really want them to.
So I started making printables! Most of the activity sheets on One Mama’s Daily Drama are simple. You’ll find mazes, puzzles, and other activities that can be done with a handful of crayons or a pencil.
My kids loved when I put together an activity binder for the drive to visit grandparents! I’d print off a handful of activities and they’d do maybe half of them.
Our favorites are ones that multiple kids can work on together or that encourage the kids to look out the window. If you have a kid who gets motion sick, you know how important it is to have activities that aren’t reading a book or looking at a screen!
Count the cars worksheet
By reader request, I designed this car worksheet for preschoolers. It’s best for kids who can count, or at least are learning to count by making an X to show how many.
You might notice that the cards on this activity page look a lot like Volkswagon Beetles. If you have a kid who loves to play the Slug Bug game (and gets too excited slugging a sibling) this is a clever alternative.
For this activity, look out the window and count the cars that you see. They can be any model, not just the Beetle. The goal of this worksheet is to make a mark with a pencil or crayon for each color.
At the end of your drive, see how many cards of each color your child has spotted along the road.
You can print a fresh copy and use this every time you travel – whether it’s a long road trip or just across town to the bank!
