Inspired by an episode of “Parks and Rec,” Galentine’s is the day before Valentine’s Day – February 13th.
Even if you’ve never watched the show, it’s a fun way to celebrate your female friendships, no matter how you feel about Valentine’s Day. In fact, Galentine’s Day has become so popular that Oriental Trading added a whole section for it to their holiday shop!
I threw a small Galentine’s Day brunch at my office last year and it was so much fun. This year I decided to go all out. Here’s a peek at what I have in mind.
Galentine’s Day brunch
Party printables
I can’t do a party tutorial post without creating at least a few printables. For this one, I designed an invitation and a name card.
You can use the name cards for place settings, which is handy if you’re hosting a crowd. They can also double as labels for the food on the buffet.
Use these card holders to stand them up.
Brunch menu
In the show, Amy Poehler’s character (Leslie Knope) takes all her female coworkers out for waffles. I decided to set up a brunch buffet.
Below I set up:
- waffles
- syrup in the gravy boat
- orange juice in a glass beverage dispenser
For party day, I’ll probably get some fresh fruit too, and maybe a few other breakfast pastries or some sausage.
Depending on how many guests you have, you could go all out with a big buffet. You could also make a wine spritzer or mimosas to drink.
Pro tip: I put the orange juice dispenser up on a cake stand so that the spout didn’t have to hang over the edge of the table.
I put the plasticware in three canning jars that I just set inside my unfinished wood window box. I stuffed some gold paper shreds around the jars so they fit snugly.
Tableware and decor
The tableware includes:
- white polyester tablecloth
- Valentine’s plastic table cover
- pink square plates
- blue plastic forks
- gold heart beverage napkins
- gold place card holders
- mini champagne flutes
The plastic is a bit transparent, so I layered the white tablecloth underneath it. I think it looks really nice together. It’s also super-easy to clean up afterward.
I have pink tissue pom-poms and blue paper fans to hang over the table.
My centerpiece is a set of pillar candles on these candle holders. They look fabulous without much effort at all.
Pro tip: If you’re hanging paper decorations above the candles, use flameless LED ones so there’s no risk of fire.
My favorite part of the decor is this letterboard kit. It comes with a ton of letters, numbers, and symbols so you can write our your Galentine’s Day wishes. I had to go with a quote from “Parks and Rec,” of course.
