Herb Pot Valentines Craft with Printable Cards

Instead of a bouquet of flowers, give a fresh potted plant on Valentine’s Day. This herb pot Valentine craft is a simple and unique gift idea that you can make in less than an hour. Herbs are a fun way to brighten up the kitchen of your sweetheart or let someone know that they’ve grown on you.

These herb pots are super cute and easy to make. Give them as a gift for Valentine’s Day – or to your gal pals on Galentine’s Day.

You might also decide to make a few for yourself.

Herbs are a great plant to grow indoors if you don’t have space for a backyard garden. Most are happy in a small container on your windowsill. I keep mine in the kitchen so that I can just pinch off a few leaves while I’m cooking.

How to make herb pot valentines

Supplies

4-inch ceramic pots
red and gold spray paint
small herb plants – I used chives, oregano, rosemary, and thyme
potting soil
white stone gravel
printable herb valentine cards (download below)
wooden skewers

Instructions

Start by painting the empty pots. I laid mine out on newspaper in the backyard, sprayed one side, then sprayed the other. My gold paint covered in one coat but the red needed two.

Follow the drying and recoating instructions on the paint you use. Most spraypaints dry really quickly, but I let mine sit overnight anyway.

Gently remove the plants from their containers. It helps to squeeze the container to loosen the dirt without damaging the roots. Put each plant in a pot.

I purchased 4-inch herbs, so I didn’t need to add much potting soil and they fit the new pots snugly. If you have smaller plants, you might need to add some.

Once the plants are arranged, add a handful of gravel to the top. This is decorative, although it will help the dirt stay moist a little longer.

For gifting, add a valentine card on a skewer. Cut the skewers to the desired length; scissors will work. For these pots, my skewers are six inches long.

Tape the valentine card to the skewer and stick it in the dirt.

Simple. Easy. Gorgeous.

I’m not usually a big fan of gold, but after making these, I think I’m going to add more of it to my decor!

There are tons of ways to change this up too:

Use succulents, tiny cacti, or flowers that grow well indoors.
I used red and gold, but any paint color will do.
Use painter’s tape to layer multiple colors in stripes or other patterns.

Altogether, this herb pot valentines craft took me just a few minutes to put together, not counting waiting for the paint to dry.
