The last day of school is sometimes bittersweet. It’s the end of something that hopefully was really great. The kids are saying goodbye to teachers and see you later to friends. Maybe some are moving away. And of course, as parents, we see that our babies are yet another year older and smarter.
For most families, it’s also a welcome and much-needed break. After a full year of routines, tests, and more than a little stress, it’s nice to look forward to the freedom of summer vacation. Below I rounded up a dozen cute ideas for saying goodbye and hello at the same time, including a few gifts for friends and party ideas.
End of school printables
End of school printable interview
This end of school interview from Giggles Galore is super cute. There’s space to write in all the important things about your child’s school year – friends and favorites.
It would be fun to do one of these at the end of each year and then put them together in a memory book. But even if you kids are older, it’s not too late to start.
Coloring pages
Grab a few end of school coloring pages from Classroom Doodles to keep kids entertained during the last week of school before summer vacation.
Summer contact cards
If you’re looking for a way to stay in touch with friends over the summer, I created these summer contact cards as an easy printable to hand out on the last day. Fill out each one with your child’s info and tell friends to keep in touch.

Summer bucket list
If you need a more generic list to plan out your summer and keep track of what you’ve done, I designed a simple summer bucket list. It has two columns to write in a list and boxes to check off what you’ve done.

Teacher appreciation card
Print one of these teacher appreciation cards from Where the Smiles Have Been to let your child’s teacher know how much they’re loved. Write a message and attach a gift card.
Last day of school signs
Do you take photos on the first day of school? Make it a tradition to take them on the last day too to see how the kids have changed. Happiness is Homemade has a free printable last day of school sign that she updates annually.

Cool popsicle gift tag

Student gift tags
These student gift tags from Pocket of Preschool are cute and colorful. There are several designs with fun puns to attach to a variety of small gifts.
Often the last few days or weeks of school feel like you’re dragging your feet across the finish line of a very long race. If you’ve lost the enthusiasm you had at the beginning of the year, don’t feel like you need to do all of these end of school printables! Pick one that’s fun and can become a new yearly tradition.
