One of my favorite apps that I’ve used on my computer forever is for desktop sticky notes. The one I use now on my Mac is called Stickies. When I had a PC, I used Simple Stick Notes.
It’s super handy to just open up a sticky note while talking to someone on the phone to type in some quick info. Or to write a note to myself for later when I don’t want to get distracted mid-task.
You can move them around, format the text, and change the color.
In fact, I use the app so much that there have been times when my whole computer desktop was covered in two dozen notes.
My desktop used to look like a hot mess. There were sticky notes in six colors, files for work and personal use, screenshots, etc. You get the idea.
So I created a desktop organizer wallpaper graphic that I could use to sort my stuff. After a year or so of using it, I have become so much more organized! I made a few tweaks and decided it was ready to share. I hope you find it as helpful as I have.
How to use a desktop organizer
This desktop organizer background has three large boxes to sort your files and images (and sticky notes if you use them).
Older versions of this had category labels, but there are so many options that I decided to remove them. Here are some sorting categories you might find handy.
- Quick Reference – Anything you need to see daily, like a checklist or passwords
- To Do – Tasks that need your attention sooner or later, but not necessarily right away, such as a project in progress
- Time Sensitive – This is for anything you need to do ASAP, like an application or a project with a deadline
- To File – Anything that you’re done using in the short term, but need to file away for later, like a finished project or recent photo uploads
The background image is cute and colorful, but not too personal. You can easily customize it on a Mac by adding widgets to your desktop. That’s how I added a clock and calendar to the background pictured at the top of this blog post.

Using the digital download
This files is a PNG, so you can just set it as the desktop background/wallpaper on most desktops and laptops. On mine, I can right-click on a single image and then select set desktop picture.
I can also right-click on my desktop and select change desktop background. Your computer might be slightly different.
Each image is scaled at 16:9, so it should work on most horizontal devices. You may need to adjust your wallpaper settings to get it to fit, depending on your screen size and resolution.
If you’re looking for easy ways to get organized any time, using a desktop organizer wallpaper will be really helpful. Just like the desktop on your physical desk, when your workspace is cluttered you are not as productive.

These are lovely! Are you going to do a 2021 set?!
Thank you! Yes, I’m planning to add the 2021 desktop wallpaper to this post toward the end of December.
Grabbing my 2021s now! These have become essential to me 🙂
It makes my day to hear that! Thanks so much!
Loving this!! Will come in handy as baby number 2 is coming and I’m trying to stay organized! Wish I would have seen this at the beginning of 2021! Will you be doing a 2022 edition?
Thanks so much, Meghan! This wallpaper has been really popular, so I do plan to make a 2022 edition. Look for an update in December!
Hi! I love this- are you able to link calendar events (like from gcal) to the wallpaper? Or is it static and just shows the dates?
Hi Stephanie! These are just flat jpg images, so there’s no way to link. That’s a really interesting idea though. After a quick Google search, it looks like it’s possible using HTML, so I’ll look into it for next year’s calendar.
