My kids love going outside to play on a snow day – for about ten minutes. Then they come in cold and ready to do something indoors!

That usually means hot chocolate, cookies, and games. Sometimes we snuggle up on the couch and watch a movie. For a fun activity that’s also screen-free, print this winter word search and word scramble.

There are 2 activities on a single page, plus some cute little woodland creatures that kids can color. You can do this winter activity sheet with a pencil, colored pencils, crayons, or even markers if you prefer.

Word puzzles

This printable includes a word search and a word scramble on one page. (There’s also a second page that includes the answer key.)

In the word search, look for a dozen words for things that will keep you warm and cozy on a cold winter day. Answers may be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.

In the word scramble, rearrange the letters to name 8 animals that live in the arctic, where it’s cold all year long! They include a fox, polar bear, and narwhal – the animals pictured for coloring too.

This activity sheet is best for older elementary kids. It requires reading, spelling, and a bit of creative thinking.
