Food makes a great gift. It can be inexpensive, thoughtful, and something the recipient will use. Rather than adding another candle or coffee mug to your bestie’s stockpile, mix up a few delicious spice mixes.

All you need are the ingredients for the recipes, a few containers, and the printable labels.

For this gift idea, I used glass canning jars. They’re reusable or recyclable when they are empty.

The basket is from the dollar store, but you can easily repurpose one you already own–or skip the basket and use a gift bag or any container. I added a Christmas dish towel, but you could swap for tissue paper or even go without for a truly minimalist gift.

Spice mixes for a gift basket

Start by mixing up your spices. These are recipes I’ve created myself using ingredients I can find at most grocery stores. They’re spice blends my family uses regularly, so I know they’re delicious.

The cards included with the download have the spice blend recipes. Here are a few recipes on the blog that use each one.

  • Tex-Mex taco mix
  • Fajita mix
  • Greek seasoning blend
  • Italian herbs
  • Barbecue dry rub
  • All-purpose pie spice

For each spice blend, combine the ingredients on the recipe card in a pint jar. Secure the lid and shake to combine. If you’re using larger jars, you can make multiple batches.

Spice blend labels and tags

Print the labels and tags on regular printer paper or card stock. Cut out each one with scissors.

The circle labels fit inside a 2-part canning jar lid. The ingredient lists can be tucked into the gift basket, or punch a hole and use string to tie them to each jar. This is handy if you’re just gifting one spice mix instead of the whole set.

Download the printable as a 2-page PDF to print on 8.5×11-inch paper. The first page is 6 circle lid labels. The second page is square ingredient lists. All printables are for personal use only.
