You can make these pumpkin bead bracelets for Halloween, of course, but there’s something about summer and friendship bracelets. All you need are a handful of beads and some string.
I made these with pony beads, but you could use seed beads or whatever you already have. You don’t need a lot of beads to make these, and the filler between the pumpkins can be any color (I used clear).
How to make a pumpkin bracelet
Supplies
- orange, green, and clear (or any 3rd color) pony beads
- string or bead thread
Instructions
1. Start with a base of beads.
Cut a length of cord that’s longer than you think it needs to be. I didn’t actually measure mine, but it’s probably around 36 inches. You can always trim the ends, but it’s hard to work with a cord that’s too short.
Slide 2 beads onto the cord and center them, folding the cord in half. Slide 2 more beads onto one end, then slide the other end through those 2 in the opposite direction. The cord will weave back and forth through the beads like you’re lacing tennis shoes.
Add one more pair, for a total of 3 groups of 2 beads.
2. Make a bead pumkin.
To make a pumpkin shape, weave a row of 2, then 3, the 2 more orange beads. Add one green bead for a pumpkin stem.
3. Repeat the pattern.
After the pumpkin, add 2 rows of the base color beads. Continue adding pumpkins and base beads until the bracelet fits around your wrist.
For mine, that took 3 pumpkins with base colors between them and on either end.
How to tie the bracelet
Keep the beads from sliding by tying an overhand knot at the end. To wear the bracelet, thread one end of the cord through the beads at the beginning and tie a knot.
This is really a pretty quick craft. Apart from taking photos for this blog post, the whole thing probably took me 15 minutes or less. This would be a fun group activity if you’re throwing a Summerween party.
