Pipe Cleaner Rose Pen Topper

Make a simple pipe cleaner rose to use as a whimsical pen topper. These can also be added to a bigger flower bouquet.

I love a whimsical craft that’s pretty but also practical. Have you ever made a pen topper that’s a giant flower? This version is made from pipe cleaner and raffia. It takes just a few minutes to make one.

How to make pipe cleaner roses

Supplies

red pipe cleaner stems
green raffia
scissors
pen

Note: To make a flower bouquet instead of a rosette to attach, use green pipe cleaner stems instead of the raffia.

Instructions

1. Make the petals.

Start by folding 3 pipe cleaner stems in half. Cut a 12-inch piece of raffia. Thread the raffia through the stems and tie a knot.

Take one section of the red stems and spiral it into a circle. Repeat with the others, overlapping the finished spirals. Press them upward into a flower shape.

2. Add the center.

Cut a piece of pipe cleaner in half and use one piece. Fold it in half, then in half again to bend it into 2 L-shapes. Fold the center piece down to the middle to create 2 small petals.

Stick the ends of the stem through the petals on the main flower. Slightly bend the smaller inner petals and press the other petals toward them.

3. Attach the stem.

Take the ends of the petal section that are sticking through the bottom and twist them around the raffia to create the base of the flower. Wrap the raffia around the top of the pen and tie it securely.

I didn’t use any glue, but if you feel like your flower isn’t holding its shape or you just want it to be sturdier, you can. This pen is still easy to click and write with the flower attached to the top. It’s cute and silly and stands out in my pen jar!

If you prefer to make your roses into a bouquet, the green pipe cleaner in place of the raffia will serve as stems. Twist the ends to make them sturdier, then add them to a vase with other pipe cleaner flowers.
