As the weather gets warmer, I want my kids to turn off electronics and go play outside more. Sometimes that’s easier said than done, but this printable nature scavenger hunt is the perfect tween activity to get them moving outdoors.
I made a nature scavenger hunt for little kids several years ago. As my own kids have grown, they need something that’s more challenging. This new version definitely does that.
I included 20 different things and some of them might require some creativity or thoughtfulness to find. For some, you might need to rely on what you learned in science class.
Scavenger hunt clues
This printable includes a list of 20 items to search for and check off a list. It has a mix of easier and harder things to find.
For example, an evergreen tree is pretty easy to find, depending on where you live. Animal footprints will take some searching. And a rock you can write with might take some trial and error.
You can probably find many in your backyard, especially if it’s pretty big. To get the most out of it, I recommend going to a local park or natural area.
scavenger hunt rules
Make it a family activity and work together or print one for each child and see who can find the most. This could also be a fun team activity for an after-school club or just a group of friends.
You could also make it a game for a nature-themed birthday party. Or take it with you on a camping trip. There are really a lot of ways to enjoy a nature scavenger hunt.
To do the scavenger hunt, just check the items off the list as you find them. You could also snap a photo. These are mostly not things you could collect and some you shouldn’t even touch (beehive!).
Printable nature scavenger hunt
Print this on your home computer. It fits regular 8.5×11-inch paper, but you can resize it smaller if needed. The type is large enough that you could print 4 to a page if you’re doing this activity with a group.
