My family visited our local Legoland Discovery Center here in DFW to get a sneak peek at the new LEGO Movie 4D. It’s only showing at Legoland and Legoland Discovery Centers. While we were there we had a ton of fun. If you are planning a trip to Legoland in Grapevine, you have to see my list of things to do while you’re there.
My kids are 9 and 12, so they’re definitely on the “big kid” side of many Legoland activities. There’s still a ton of fun things to do, though. Some of these on my list, you might not have even noticed.
Legoland Discover Center activities & tips
1. Download the app before you go.
It has tons of useful information, including a map of the location, height restrictions, and ticket info.
2. Go on a scavenger hunt.
Download the app to play. Follow the clues and scan each QR code to reveal a minifigure. Find all of them for a virtual prize.
3. See the current LEGO Star Wars Miniland model display.
Legoland just reopened Miniland with a new display, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. It has several scenes from the film in minifigure-scale dioramas. It has tons {hundreds?} of tiny droids and stormtroopers, all your favorite characters, and an arena full of Geonosans.
4. Look for the cast of The LEGO Movie in Miniland Dallas.
Emmet, Wildstyle, Unikitty and other characters have invaded Miniland Dallas. Look through the display to see if you can find them all.
5. Watch the new film, The LEGO Movie 4D: A New Adventure.
Your favorite characters from The LEGO Movie have reunited to face a new foe called Risky Business. He’s built a theme park that looks like Legoland, but there’s a catch that the heroes must discover. Watch the movie wearing 3D glasses and be prepared for a few extra surprises.
The audience will feel the wind, water, and some lemon-scented bubbles. There’s also audience participation at the end. My kids do not like traditional 3D movies, but they loved this. Run time is approximately 20 minutes and the film is shown throughout each day.
6. Build a car to race downhill.
Construct the perfect vehicle to roll down the hill and launch into the bin. It will take some trial-and-error to find one that’s aerodynamic and won’t crash.
7. Compete to see who can defeat the most trolls.
Ride through the Kingdom Quest laser ride. Each passenger gets a LEGO pirate gun to shoot trolls. Check your score at the end to see who earned the most points. Then, check at the photo booth for a funny photo of your family on the ride.
8. Snap a photo with your favorite life-sized LEGO character.
Almost everything in Legoland is made of LEGO. You’ll find life-sized characters throughout the center, perfectly posed for a photo op.
9. Build your own minifigure in the store.
One of our favorite Legoland activities is making a unique minifigure in the store before we leave. There are several bins filled with pieces and you can construct your own character, complete with headwear and accessories. {As of this post: $5/1 figure; $10/3 figures.}
