The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo is here! This celebration of all things livestock runs January and February each year. Take the whole family and enjoy a few of these ideas for fun things to do with kids at the Fort Worth Stock Show!
I think everyone who lives in DFW should visit the stock show at least once. There’s really a lot to do. You could probably spend a whole day there and not do it all. Here are a few of our favorite attractions to see and do as a family.
Fort Worth Stock Show fun
1. Visit some unusual animals.
Even if you see cows and horses ever day, odds are you haven’t seen these. The stock show is the perfect place to see less common breeds. We’ve seen miniature horses, highland cows, lion head bunnies, and once – a wallaby!
2. Pet some cute animals.
It’s fun for kids to go through the barns and see all the animals, but it’s even more fun when you can touch them. Visit the petting zoo area for a supervised visit with goats, ponies, ducks, and other animals.
3. Watch a live milking demo.
Learn where the milk for your breakfast cereal comes from and see a rancher show how it all works.
4. See the art contest entries.
Tons of Texas students enter an art competition each year. See the creative artwork of the finalists and winners.
5. Learn at the Kids Gone Wild event.
One Saturday during the stock show, the Texas Wildlife Association sets ups an exhibit with educational outdoor activities like archery, fishing, air guns and other sports. Check the calendar for this year’s date.
6. Listen to Campfire Stories.
The Texas Cowboy Poets Association hosts a storytelling event on select dates during the stock show. Check the calendar for this year’s dates.
7. Play a game at the Carnival Midway.
The cost of games can add up fast, but it’s fun to try out a few. You might just win one of those giant stuffed animals!
8. Let them eat funnel cake.
There are tons of delicious things to eat at the stock show. Treat the kids to something they don’t get every day, like a funnel cake or a candy apple.
9. Visit the museums.
While this isn’t something to see at the stock show, it’s a great treat for visiting. Get free admission to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame with your Fort Worth Stock Show tickets. The discount is valid during any stock show day.
