When the weather outside it hot and you’re trying to keep everyone hydrated, there’s only so much water you can drink. This honey blueberry lemonade is a delicious alternative that’s easy to mix up.
Make a pitcher for your next summer party or anytime you need something cool and refreshing to drink.
This recipe also makes a fun summer science activity for kids. Before we mixed up our pitcher, I asked my kids what color they thought the lemonade would be. They know that blue and yellow makes green and it was fun to watch the yellow lemonade turn green as we added the blueberries.
Honey blueberry lemonade
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2-1/2 cups water
- 4 cups water
- 1-1/2 cups lemon juice
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- ice {optional}
Instructions
In a small saucepan on the stove, heat the honey and the 2-1/2 cups of water. Stir frequently just until the honey is melted and blending in. It doesn’t need to get too hot.
Set the honey water aside to cool.
Meanwhile, wash the blueberries and make sure there aren’t any stems.
In a large pitcher, combine the 4 cups of water, lemon juice, and blueberries. Add the honey water when it is cool enough to not damage the pitcher. {I used a 2-quart glass pitcher. Pouring really hot water into glass can cause it to shatter.}
Stir to combine and chill the lemonade until you’re ready to serve. Serve over ice if you like.
This recipe is really simple and the result is a drink that’s not too sweet and just a bit tart. Our pitcher turned a light green shade, but if you want a stronger blueberry flavor or a more blue color, try adding blueberry juice or mashing the berries.
