When I was a kid, the most exciting part of back to school was shopping for school supplies. I think that was mostly due to Lisa Frank, but gosh those neon kittens and unicorns were awesome!
Now as a parent, tracking down the very specific supplies my kids need is a bit more of a chore, but I do still get excited when I find pretty ones!
This printable back-to-school word search is a fun activity to get your kids thinking about the new year. All of the words included are common school supplies. I went with simple names, so you won’t be searching for specific brands or elusive folders-with-brads-not-pockets in this puzzle.
As far as age range, I think kids in elementary will enjoy it. Some of the words are long, so you may need to help younger kids with reading. But the letters are big and all of the words read from left to right or top to bottom (no tricky backward diagonals).

This download includes a one-page printable puzzle and an answer key. There are 18 words to find hidden in the word search. They can be horizontal or vertical.
This would be a fun activity to give your child in the week or so leading up to the first day, or even to use as a back-to-school party activity.
