Chex mix is one of those snacks that’s kind of perfect. You can make it a thousand ways. And it’s easy to make a big batch to feed a crowd of hungry teens, serve at a party, or just nibble while watching TV on the weekend.
I make this on the stovetop because I like using my giant All-Clad pot. It’s easy to stir everything without anything going over the edges. Any large pot will do! Alternatively, you could melt the butter in the microwave if you have a large enough mixing bowl to add all the other ingredients.
Whip up a batch today. It will stay fresh in a covered container at room temperature for a few weeks.

How to make apple cinnamon chex mix
Suggested tools
Here are the kitchen tools I use:
Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 6 cups Chex cereal – I used rice but choose your favorite.
- 1.5 cups freeze-dried apple slices
- 0.5 cups raisins
- 1 cup Teddy Graham cookies
Instructions
1. Melt butter and add spices.
In a large pot on the stovetop, melt butter over medium heat. Add the cinnamon and brown sugar, stirring to combine. Turn off the heat.
2. Add the cereal.
Add the cereal to the hot butter mixture in the pot and toss gently to coat the cereal.
3. Bake in the oven.
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour the cereal mixture onto a large baking sheet and spread it out evenly. Bake it in the oven for 15 minutes. If it still feels moist, you can stir and bake it for another 5 minutes, but I don’t usually do this. When done, remove the baking sheet from the oven and set it aside to cool until you can handle it, about 15 minutes or so.
4. Add dry ingredients.
Pour the cereal mixture into a large bowl, storage container, or gallon zip bag. Break the apples into bite-sized pieces and add them, along with the raisins and Teddy Grahams, to the cereal. Toss gently to combine.
