Adopt a Penguin Worksheet and Fun Facts for Kids

Adopt a penguin and turn it into a learning experience with fun facts about it on this penguin worksheet for kids.

Did you know that there are 2 different penguin-themed holidays each year?

Penguin Awareness Day is January 20th. This day is to focus on raising awareness about penguins.

World Penguin Day is April 25th, which is around the date that Adelie penguins in Antarctica migrate, and focuses on conservation.

You can use one or both dates as a fun reason to learn more about penguins with your kids. Print this All About Penguins worksheet and fill in the blanks, then add your own cool penguin facts and a drawing.

This worksheet is intended to go along with adopting a penguin through a wildlife conservation organization, but you could just pretend you’re adopting a penguin and choose one species to learn about.

Although all penguins have some things in common, the answer that goes in each blank will depend on which of the 18 species you’re learning about.

How to adopt a penguin

You can adopt a penguin (virtually) with a one-time or monthly donation to a wildlife conservation organization. I have not participated in all of these; please do research before donating to any organization.

• If you’re local to DFW, the Fort Worth Zoo offers penguin adoptions. (Outside of North Texas, check your local zoo or aquarium to see if they have a program.)
• The World Wildlife Fund has options for emperor penguins, gentoo penguins, macaroni penguins, and African black-footed penguins.
• Try the WWF in the UK or the Penguin Foundation in Australia.

Penguin facts resources

My favorite place for learning resources is my local library. Look for fiction and nonfiction books to turn this into a whole day of penguin fun.

And although not always 100% kid-oriented, Wikipedia has an article on each individual penguin species!
