My kids are not always happy. In fact, it kind of seems like when they should be all smiles, that’s when the frowns are most likely to pop up. That’s what happened this weekend when we went to the park. It was a perfect, partly-sunny spring day. I packed up a cooler of Slammers organic snack pouches and my camera. It’s a rare day that all four of us can just hang out and play at the park for an hour or two. The kids would have none of my terrible fun though. Fortunately I had brought along my secret weapon: food.
Playtime
I don’t know about you, but I love to take pictures of my kids crying and frowning and having a fit.
Maybe it’s so I have plenty of fodder for graduation and wedding slide shows.
I mean, it’s kind of hard not to laugh at that face.
I made them swing and slide and play. Maybe I should start practicing my evil laugh. Mwahaha, now you shall have fun!
Finally, when they’d had all the fun they could stand – about 20 minutes – I broke out the snacks. It was like magic.
Happy children. Smiling children.
They loved them.
It gave them the energy to play and smile. At the same time.
About Slammers
Slammers are organic snack pouches made with real fruit, vegetables, yogurt, and grains. They were invented by a pair of moms whose kids needed yummy and healthy snacks to take on the go. Slammers come in four flavors:
- Epic: mango, banana, orange, carrot, Greek yogurt, and vanilla
- Awesome: banana, blueberry, strawberry, beet, acai, and amaranth
- Chill’n: banana, blueberry, butternut squash, Greek yogurt, and yumberry {I had to search for that one, but it’s a real fruit.}
- Pumped: banana, pineapple, mango, ancient grains, butternut squash, and cinnamon
All of the flavors are certified organic, have no added sugar, and are nut and gluten free. They’re also packaged in easy-to-open containers that are BPA-free. They are currently sold at Target and Safeway family stores nationwide.
Slammers review
My kids – and me and Hubby too – really liked the Slammers. Everyone tried all four flavors. My daughter liked the Epic best and my son preferred Awesome. This is a great way to get a semi-picky kid to eat more fruits and vegetables. If your child has a thing about texture, these are very smooth. They have a consistency somewhere between applesauce and baby food.
They were really convenient to just toss in a bag and go. I had them in the refrigerator before we left and they were still cool when we ate them. I think we would have like them a bit colder, so next time I will freeze them.
If you’re planning on torturing your kids with some fun this summer, be sure to take along some of these Slammers organic snack pouches.

Ok, I need some for this summer. Might take to the beach too. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh, yes. They would be perfect frozen, then tossed in the beach bag for a cooling snack later.
