Talk Like a Pirate Day is September 19th. It’s a made-up holiday and an excuse to say things like “Ahoy!” and “Arrgh!” Of course, you can focus on a more historically accurate lesson on pirates, but the point is just to be silly and have fun. Read the full history here if you want the details.
Pirate Mad Libs
This printable pirate Mad Libs story is a cute and fun activity for kids. I wrote a simple story about a pirate school for kids who want to be pirates.
Like with any mad libs story, fold the paper in half and make up some words to go on each line on the left side. There are parts of speech, like nouns and adjectives, and also simple words like colors and animals.
Unfold the paper and read the story on the right side, adding the words as they are numbered.
Mad Libs are intended for elementary and middle school kids who can read and know a bit about grammar. Younger kids will enjoy this too but might need some help.
This is a great activity for siblings of different ages to do together!
The results will be a silly nonsense pirate story that is sure to be fun for several uses.
I would say this is an educational activity because you need to know what an adjective and a noun are. But if your kids are like mine, they’re just trying to figure out how to use ‘fart’ as many times as possible.
I think this would be an excellent activity for a pirate-themed birthday party.
