Enjoy flavorful Mediterranean and Greek ingredients in this simple salad bowl meal, perfect for a busy weeknight supper or weekend dinner party. This Mediterranean turkey bowls recipe is delicious and budget-friendly.

My husband was talking with a friend the other day about healthy and budget-friendly meals. {Yes, I’m rubbing off on him.} He mentioned that we use ground turkey instead of beef sometimes because it’s about half the price. The friend asked how we cook turkey because when he substituted it for ground beef in a few recipes, it just wasn’t that good.
The trick with ground turkey – and the reason why it’s such a healthy alternative to beef – is that it is lean. Even lean ground beef has a good amount of fat. To make a good burger, meatloaf, or anything that requires the meat to stick together, you need to add fat to the ground turkey.
Turkey also doesn’t have a whole lot of flavor on its own, so you need to season it really well.
The conversation inspired me to come up with a few nontraditional recipes for ground turkey. When you treat it like beef, you have to make accommodations. When you treat it like turkey, you’ll discover that it’s really a great ingredient on its own.
Mediterranean turkey bowls recipe
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 2 tablespoons Greek seasoning*
- 1 head romaine lettuce
- 3 green onions
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1/2 a medium cucumber
- 1/2 cup black olives
- 4 ounces feta
- 1 package pita chips
- 1 bottle cucumber ranch dressing
*Note: The Greek seasoning is the same recipe I included in my cookbook. I usually make up a large batch and keep it in a canning jar. Here’s the recipe, for your convenience:
- 1 teaspoon dried dill
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 2 teaspoons dried marjoram
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Combine all the spices in a jar with a lid and shake to combine. Store covered in the pantry.
Instructions
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and add the ground turkey. Cook the turkey, breaking it up until it is cooked through. Add the seasoning and stir to combine. Turn off the heat and set aside.

Wash and chop the romaine. Wash and dice the green onions, bell pepper, and cucumber into bite-sized pieces.

To assemble each serving, put a large handful of lettuce in a bowl or plate. Top that with the desired amount of green onion, bell pepper, cucumber, olives, and feta. Add a spoonful of turkey and top with a handful of pita chips.

Drizzle the dressing over the top. If you can’t find cucumber ranch dressing, any Greek-inspired dressing or tzatziki sauce will work too.

This recipe is delicious, healthy, and surprisingly filling. The flavors really work perfectly together.

A girl after my mediterranean heart Pining Keri!
Thanks, Mary! I’m always a little worried that when I share an Americanized Greek food recipe that someone who’s actually been there will tell me it’s not any good. 😉
We love this meal! Cucumber ranch isn’t always easy to find so we add finely chopped cucumber and a little dried dill to regular ranch dressing and it tastes great. The seasoning mix make twice what is needed for the recipe so we save it and it’s easier the next time we make it! Thanks!
Thanks for the tips, Jeannie! I’m so glad you like this recipe.
