This craft was originally shared in 2017 as part of my Christmas gift ideas with printables and has been updated for clarity.

Why does kraft paper feel festive for Christmas? I don’t know, but I love wrapping brown paper packages with string and my kids absolutely adore it if there are drawings on the gift wrap.

Add a little rustic or Scandinavian vibe to your Christmas gifts and make a bunch of these kraft paper tags for all your gifts this year.

Kraft paper printing tips

Depending on your printer, you may have some trouble printing on kraft paper. Here are a few tips I’ve learned that should make it a bit easier.

  1. Choose kraft paper that’s similar to card stock. You probably won’t be able to print on something super thick (like chipboard) or super thin (like wrapping paper). The one I used is sold as scrapbook paper.
  2. Pre-cut your paper to size. I’ve had printers that can fit the larger paper, but this printable is 8.5×11 inches, so go ahead and cut your paper to that size.
  3. Select the right printer settings. Choose something thick like cardstock or photo paper if that’s an option.
  4. Be patient. Even following all these tips, my printer can be finicky. Sometimes it tells me there is a paper jam or the paper is out, even if it’s fine. Keep reloading the kraft paper with just one page in the tray and try again.

Note: I don’t have any experience with cutting machines like the Cricut/Silhouette, but that might be an option too.

Supplies

  • Red and white Nordic print kraft bags
  • Natural cotton cord
  • Red tissue paper
  • Brown kraft paper
  • scissors
  • single hole-punch
  • Printable gift tags (download below)

Instructions

1. Print and cut out the paper tags.

Use the tips above to feed the kraft paper through your printer and print the page of tags. Use scissors to cut out each one and a hole punch to remove the black dot on each tag.

2. Package the gift

Wrap your gift or just pop it in a cute gift bag like I did. The great thing about these kraft paper bags is that they look festive all on their own.

3. Tie on the tag.

Cut a length of cotton cord that’s at least 12 inches long. You can always trim off the tails if you need to. Lace it through the hole in the tag and tie a bow around the bag handle.

Don’t forget to write who it’s to and from on the back.
