Father’s Day is the perfect time to spend one-on-one time. Plan a daddy-daughter date and do one of these fun parent and child activities.

Father’s Day is a great time to plan a special activity with Daddy and his little girl. Of course, any day of the year is fun too. I found a lot of great Daddy-daughter date ideas and also asked my 11-year-old what she thought would be fun.
I really think family fun nights are a great way to keep everyone connected. Okay, so my kids aren’t teens and they don’t go out much without a parent. Still, I think teaching them that it’s important to spend time as a family, as well as one-on-one time, is important at any age. (So really, these ideas would be fun with the whole family, or any parent-child combo.)
Dad daughter date activities
1. Zoo
Visit your local zoo or aquarium. If you typically go as a family, one-on-one time will be really special. Slow down and spend more time with your favorite animals.
2. Ice cream
Go out to an ice cream parlor and load up a giant sundae for two. You could make this a regular feature and visit the same place every year. Or pick a new place and turn it into an adventure.
3. Bike ride
Ride bikes at the park or on local trails. Pack water and snacks to have a picnic. Or bring your camera and turn it into a photo scavenger hunt.
4. Read
Go to the public library and pick out a few books. Hang out and read together. For little kids, it’s perfectly fine to read out loud in the children’s section! Try one of these middle grade mysteries and try to solve it before the story does.
5. Picnic
Pack a lunch and head out to your local park for a classic picnic. Bring along a ball, Frisbee, or other fun things to do after you eat.
6. Brinner
Have a breakfast-for-dinner date. Go to a local diner or waffle house and enjoy your favorite breakfast foods at night (or in the afternoon).
7. Movie night
Have a movie night at home and go all out. Order pizza, pop some popcorn, and get a sweet treat. Pump up the air mattress or lay out pallets on the living room floor. Pick our some movies – old favorites and new ones – and plan to stay up all night watching.
8. Learn
Sign up for a class together. We have painting and pottery classes for kids and their parents at several local places here in DFW, like Painting with a Twist. Lowes and Home Depot used to have kids workshops. Look for kid-friendly offerings at your local cooking school, art studios, and even the library.
9. Photo op
Head to your local mall, arcade, or anywhere that has a photo booth. Dress up fancy or silly and bring props so your photos are extra fun. I know these aren’t as common as they were 20 years ago. Try using Photobooth.net to find one nearby.
10. Hobbies
Introduce each other to your favorite hobbies. That might be sports or crafts, games or collections. Our whole family loves Pokemon.
11. Swim
Go swimming! Visit your local pool, the beach, or the lake. Bring along your favorite floats and snacks. Be sure to pack sunscreen.
12. Neighborhood walk
Walk around your neighborhood. Your child will get a kick out of walking past landmarks that they usually only see from the car window. Literally take time to stop and smell the flowers.
13. Scavenger hunt
Go on a scavenger hunt. Print off the checklist and grab a pencil. Don’t forget water bottles. You could even bring your camera. There are several other scavenger hunts for big kids here on the blog.
14. See a play
Go to the theater and see a play. For younger kids, find a children’s theater. Here in DFW, Casa Manana and the Dallas Children’s Theater have regular kids’ shows.
15. Be a kid
Do something you always loved as a kid that maybe your child doesn’t do, like flying a kite or rollerskating. Browse my retro gift guide for inspiration.
You can easily change up the details for a daddy-daughter date night! These ideas are all open-ended and you can modify them to fit your child’s age and interests.
