There is nothing like a hamburger, hot off the grill, on a hot summer evening. Although I love experimenting in the kitchen, I have to admit that I’m a bit of a burger purist. I have eaten a lot of good burgers. Every now and then, I enjoy adding a little something extra. For the most part though, when I want a burger, I just want some well-seasoned beef on a bun. When I heard about the Red Gold Summer Grillin’ Party, I was skeptical. Adding tomatoes inside the burger? Maybe. I was curious though, and had to try it and see. Find out what me and my dinner companions though of this spicy tomato burger recipe.
About Red Gold
Red Gold is an Indiana-based company makes canned tomatoes and tomato products. Their products are all natural and free from artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. (The cans are lined with BPA, but to my knowledge, the only canned tomato company that doesn’t use that uses PVC.)
Tomatoes are naturally high in lycopene and vitamin C, making these a healthy addition to any meal. Red Gold canned tomatoes are available in plain and seasoned varieties including:
Petite diced tomatoes
Petite diced tomatoes with green chillies
Petite diced tomatoes with lime juice and cilantro
Petite diced tomatoes with garlic and olive oil
Petite diced tomatoes with basil, garlic, and oregano

Spicy tomato burger recipe
- 1 to 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 14.5 oz can Red Gold petite diced tomatoes with green chilies
- salt and pepper, to taste
Drain the tomatoes well and combine them in a mixing bowl with the beef.
Lay the patties on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and pop them in the freezer for 30 minutes or so. This helps them stay firm and hold their shape on the grill. If you want to make them several hours in advance, extra freeze time won’t make them cook any longer.
Hubby and I invited a friend over for dinner and his honest opinion. These burgers turned out amazing. I loved them, Hubby loved them, and our friend did too. They were spicy, juicy, and really flavorful. In fact, they were so good that me and Hubby decided to make them again just a few days later. If you are looking for an easy, new burger recipe, this is it. I’m looking forward to trying some of the other Red Gold recipes now too.
You must try this recipe! Then, come back and tell me what you think! Which one of the other burger recipes sounds good?
