This barbecue chicken pizza recipe is a family favorite. You can make it spicy or not so much. Either way, it’s all deliciousness. This is actually a pretty simple recipe. All you need is a handful of ingredients. This can be made entirely from scratch or you can take a few shortcuts with store-bought ingredients to have it ready in about 30 minutes. As you can see by the photos, we’ve made it several different ways.
The Super Bowl is just around the corner. If you’re planning a game-watching party with friends or just an afternoon with the family, you’re going to want something to munch on. Popular game day snacks include pizza, chili, and hot wings. Enjoy this homemade barbecue chicken pizza while watching the game or any weekend.
Spicy BBQ Chicken Pizza Recipe
- 1 recipe pizza dough
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (I’m in love with this Sweet Baby Ray’s copycat.)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella
- 1 chicken breast
- salt and pepper, to taste
- diced onion, optional
Make a basic pizza crust. You can also start with a store-bought premade crust. Dice the chicken and season it with salt and pepper. Saute the chicken in a skillet over medium heat until cooked through.
When the crust is ready, roll it out on a baking sheet (aka jelly roll pan). Spread the barbecue sauce over the crust, leaving about an inch border around the outside. Top the sauce with cheese and cooked chicken.
Sprinkle with onions if desired. I’ve made this with red onions and green onions and both are delicious.
Bake the pizza according to the crust directions – about 20 minutes at 500 degrees if you’re following my recipe above – or until the crust is browned and the cheese melts.
This recipe makes one large pizza. My baking sheet is approximately 11-by-15 inches. Alternatively, the crust could be divided in half and baked directly on a pizza stone for two medium pizzas.
