What’s better than spending the weekend curled up with a good book? Spending that weekend curled up under a Harry Potter blanket that you made. All you need for this easy no-sew project is fleece.
If you’ve tried to make anything Harry Potter in the past decade, you know that licensed fabric is hard to find. When you do find it, it’s probably someone selling a 1-yard scrap for $50. When I found this fleece at my local JoAnn, I’m happy to report that they also had several other prints and materials.
It was very hard to not buy several bolts, but I ended up walking away with just two fleece prints {and matching solid colors} to make no-sew blankets.
No-sew Harry Potter fleece blanket
Supplies
- 2 coordinating fleece fabrics
2 yards of each fabric is ideal, but there wasn’t quite that much of this one left on the bolt. As long as the front and back are the same sizes, it doesn’t matter. - scissors
- a ruler
Instructions
Start by making sure the two pieces of fleece are even and trim the edges as necessary. This took about half of my time because the fabric just wasn’t straight.
At each of the four corners, cut out a square that’s 5-inches by 5-inches. Along each side, cut the fabric into 1-inch wide by 5-inch long fringe.
With both pieces of fabric together, tie each piece of fringe in a knot. You may need to stretch the fabric just a bit so that the knots don’t bunch together.
Fleece is very forgiving and stretchy. I made a no-sew blanket using this technique before and flannel or regular fabric just won’t work as well.
Altogether, this took me about two hours. My fabric was smaller, so when I made another using the two yards of fleece, I expect it to take closer to three hours.
My daughter was so excited when she saw this no-sew Harry Potter fleece blanket. I guess this one isn’t going to wait until Christmas to be a gift.

I’m Not A Harry Potter fan, but that fabric is awesome! I have a couple friends who are crazy over H.P., so they would love this blanket. Maybe I should give Harry Potter a try? 🙂

I don’t know if this particular print is still available, but I recommend checking your local JoAnn. At the two I shop at in Fort Worth, they change out the licensed fabric pretty often. I haven’t seen this print recently, but I have seen several new ones for both Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.
