Happy Monday! Welcome to everyone visiting my menu plan for the first time and a big thank you to my regular readers. Can I ask you guys a huge favor? It will actually take only about 2 minutes. I’m in a food blogger contest to win a trip to Florida. Check out my summer bean salad recipe and then share it via Facebook or your favorite social media. Details are in this post here.
Last week’s menu plan went really well. I ordered most of our groceries from Greenling using a Groupon offer I purchased a few months ago. The food and the service were good, but it probably won’t become a regular habit. Everything was just a little more expensive than the farmers market and a lot more expensive than the grocery store. I’m perfectly happy to pay more to know my food has come from a local, nearly-organic farm but my budget disagrees. My goal is to spend $100 or less on groceries each week and I almost always do. There are four of us and we eat a flexitarian diet, meaning that meat is an ingredient rather than the feature. If you follow my menu plan regularly, you will see that we eat meat four or five days per week. The difference is that I use about half a pound of whatever meat is in the meal.
I have lots of friends and relatives who eat meat as the main part of their meal every day. They all ask me the same question: How do you do it? Although my answer could probably be a book, the short answer is that it is a habit. We haven’t always eaten this way. Rather I made small adjustments over time. It was hard to come up with recipes at first, but after years it becomes habit and the other way seems odd.
I’m curious and would love my readers to comment. How much do you spend on groceries every week? How much meat do you eat?
Here’s what is on my menu plan this week:
breakfast options – Immaculate cinnamon rolls, smoothies
lunch options – quesadillas, cheese crackers, brats on homemade buns for Hubby
Monday – (meatless) tropical spinach salad
Wednesday – bacon apple salad
Thursday – chicken taquitos, rice
Friday – taco quiche
Saturday – (maybe meatless) farmers market surprise
Cheers! I participate in Menu Plan Monday at Organizing Junkie.
