My two kids – Sniffles (10) and Lil’ Wheezy (8) – are highly skilled in the art of losing things. They have lost really large things that you would think couldn’t possibly be hard to find. They have lost really expensive things (from a child’s perspective), which they had to pay for. Naturally, taking a backpack full of things to school everyday means they are also full of potential. To be lost. When my kids lose those things though, they are always found. I love LOVE labeling their things, so I was super excited to find out about Kidecals. If your child is good at losing things, you need to add these Kidecals labels to you back to school shopping list.
About Kidecals
Kidecals are waterproof labels to put on your kids’ stuff. They are dishwasher and washing machine safe, so you can use them on lunch containers, clothes, shoes, and anything else that leaves the house. There are dozens of designs that can be personalized with your child’s name, address, phone number, home room, allergy restrictions, or any other important info. You can sort the site by shape, age, and style.
They also make labels for other things:
- chalkboard labels
- canning jar labels
- wall decals
- mustache stickers
- doorbell “warnings”
- custom designs
Kidecals is the idea of mom and artist Hilary Chandler, who lives in Colorado. All of the labels are made from vinyl and printed with ecosol inks.
My Kidecals review
My first impression of the Kidecals was how thick they are. I’ve printed my own name labels at home on regular peel-and-stick paper and they were pretty flimsy. My kids are good at losing things, but they’re also really hard on the things they don’t lose. (You might notice a lot of teeth marks on the water bottle in my pictures. I always buy BPA-free ones.) I need to be sure that the labels will stay on the water bottles, lunch boxes, clothing tags, or wherever else I put them. Kidecals are tough.
My order also turned out really attractive. The graphics are clear and look exactly like the proof I saw when I ordered. Each label is a 1-inch circle, which is the perfect size for just about everything. The kids are happy with them too. Sniffles was excited when she found the giant envelope in the mail. Lil’ Wheezy told me, “Those nice labels looks really nice.”
Now I have a sheet of 66 labels for each kid. That will cover all of the things that need labeling, plus more. I’m already brainstorming a few organizing craft projects that I can use these for. I’ll be sharing one later this month.
I know what you’re thinking: This won’t keep my kid from losing stuff. You’re right, but let me tell you a story. Once upon a time, Sniffles lost a lunch container “maybe on the playground”. It had her name on it, so we figured it would turn up eventually. She searched the playground, the lost and found, the classroom… The lunch container finally did turn up. A friend found it on the playground and saw her name on it – three months into the next school year!
Shopping for Kidecals
Since these are personalized, you need to order them online from the Kidecals store. They ship pretty fast. Mine took exactly a week (ordered Friday, arrived the next Friday), but you don’t want to wait too close to the first day of school to order.
When you order, I’ve got a special treat for One Mama’s Daily Drama readers. Use coupon code fashion to get 15% off of your order. Everyone also gets free shipping, which is a big bonus in my opinion!
Follow Kidecals on Twitter and like Kidecals on Facebook to hear about new products and flash sales.
