I love being able to swap out my porch decor seasonally. This “room” is easy to update by changing the door decor, patio cushions and pillows, and planters.
I think I might be obsessed with wreaths.
So far I’ve made a fall tulle wreath, a Halloween wreath, a Christmas tulle wreath, and a spring raffia wreath. There’s probably another wreath hiding on this blog somewhere that I’ve just forgotten about too.
The thing is, wreaths are super easy to make with just a few craft supplies. The main thing is the wreath form… and you could actually swap that out with anything round, like a hula hoop {for a crazy big wreath} or an embroidery hoop.
For this rainbow wreath, I used a metal wreath form and tulle. The whole thing took me about 2 hours or so to make.
How to make a DIY rainbow wreath
Supplies
- 18-inch wire wreath frame
- craft tulle in red, orange, yellow, and blue
I used Celebrate It pre-cut tulle, which comes out to about 45 yards of each color at 5 inches wide. While the pre-cut tulle usually costs more than by-the-yard tulle, it saved me tons of time.
Instructions
1. Fold the tulle.
Start with the red tulle on the outside row. For each piece of tulle, fold it in half twice so it measures 5-inches by 8-inches.
Squish the folded tulle piece in the middle and loop it around the outside row of the metal frame.
2. Loop the tulle onto the frame.
Slide your fingers through the wires to grasp the two ends and pull them through the folded end.
3. Finish the red row.
Repeat the process until you have five or six pieces of tulle in each section. My wreath form had nine sections and there were 50 pieces of tulle, so it doesn’t divide evenly. I just spaced the extra pieces out so there wasn’t any extra tulle.
Alternatively, you could either purchase more tulle to put six pieces per section or just save the extras for another project. I figured I might as well use them up here.
Repeat the looping process for each section until the whole outside row is filled with red tulle.
4. Add the other rows.
After the red is done, repeat the whole process using the orange tulle on the second row.
Next, add the yellow tulle on row three.
And then finish with the blue tulle on the last inside row. This row was small enough that only five pieces fit in each section.
I chose these four colors because they match the rest of my porch decor, but you could use any four colors you like or combine colors on the same row.
Once my DIY rainbow wreath was complete, I just hung it up using a regular over-the-door wreath hanger.

Thanks! I’m thinking it would be fun to make a pastel rainbow for spring and a jewel-toned one for fall…
